New Year, New Podcasting Goodness

Over the past decade, The Big Blue Box Podcast has been a constant companion for Who fans. From diving deep into classic episodes to dissecting the latest adventures of the Doctor, we’ve loved every minute of bringing you content about our much-beloved show. As we enter 2025, we’re thrilled to announce a couple of exciting new developments that mark the next chapter in our journey.

Expanding Our Universe: Introducing “Federation Strike”

We’ve always been passionate about British science fiction and television, and while Doctor Who remains close to our hearts, we’ve long wanted to explore other classics that defined the genre. With that in mind, (and you guys have probably guessed this was coming anyway!) we’re launching a brand-new podcast: Federation Strike: A Journey Through Blake’s 7.

Yep, Adam finally beat me into submission after banging on about wanting to do it for years! We’ll be taking a deep dive into the world of Blake’s 7, one series at a time and we’re so excited to be starting this new show. The dynamic is quite different to The Big Blue Box Podcast in that the perspectives will be from two very different points of view: Adam is a lifelong fan (it’s his favourite show after all) and has seen it all many times versus mine, a newbie watching it all for the first time.

This will be a seasonal podcast and will align with one series of Blake’s 7, giving us the space to explore every episode, character arc, and dramatic twist in detail. Federation Strike lands on Wednesday 22nd January with a special two-episode drop where we give you our thoughts on episodes 1: The Way Back and 2: Space Fall.

Fans of The Big Blue Box Podcast will feel right at home with Federation Strike. The format will be instantly familiar; blending our reviews and opinions with our signature waffle (we’ll let you decide if that’s a good or bad thing, lol). If you’ve ever been curious about Blake’s 7 or are a long-time fan of this iconic series, we can’t wait to share this new adventure with you.

The Big Blue Box Podcast: Still Going Strong

With regards to our main-stay show, The Big Blue Box Podcast, rest assured: it isn’t going anywhere. We’ll continue to bring you the Doctor Who content you know and love. From time to time, as you may have noticed, Adam and I can’t always record every week. We (and the writing team) have lives, work, and families and time isn’t always in abundance. Add to the mix that both Adam and I travel frequently for work and other stuff, it’s sometimes difficult. We always aim to bring you our weekly show and most of the time it’s fine, there are just the odd blocks of time where it’s a challenge.

Alongside this, we’ll also continue to put out the monthly Round Table episodes with our awesome writing team. It’s always a great show with plenty of Who chat and it’s refreshing to get their thoughts on what’s going on with Who.

To confirm: Federation Strike is simply an addition, not a replacement.

Welcome to Cosmic Echoes

The launch of Federation Strike comes alongside the creation of something we’ve been working on for a while now: our new podcast network, Cosmic Echoes. This network will serve as the home for all our current and future shows, including The Big Blue Box Podcast and Federation Strike. It’s our way of expanding the scope of what we do and offering you a range of content.

Cosmic Echoes represents a nice springboard into new territory for us as creators. With plans for even more podcasts in the future, we’re excited to explore new ideas, revisit more classic TV, and share our enthusiasm for the stories that inspire us. Whether you’re here for the Doctor, the rebellion against the Federation, or whatever comes next, Cosmic Echoes will be your one-stop shop for it all.
