Hey, Who fans! We have decided to open our doors once again and expand our team with a couple of roles. We’d love to hear from people with a genuine love for the show and have some free time each week. Read on and get in touch if one of them sounds like you…

Writer

We are looking to expand our writing team and are looking for a Doctor Who fan who’s interested in contributing (ideally weekly or fortnightly) reviews and/or editorial articles to work alongside our current writers Jordan, Mark and Maria.

Reviews can be anything new or recent such as merchandise, Big Finish, new TV episodes etc. If you’ve picked up one of the new blu ray collection box sets or a sweet new book, our readers would love to know your thoughts.

Editorials can be opinion pieces on anything you’d like to get down on paper (or, er, keyboard) from the world of Doctor Who. Maybe you want to describe your love of McCoy’s era, the various lengths of Matt Smith’s hair during his era (actually, that wouldn’t be very good) or if a certain companion has made an impact on you. Whatever you love (or dislike) about Doctor Who and think our readers would find it interesting, that’s what we’re after.

You need to have a decent eye for writing, obviously, and the basics in place such as good grammar and concise communication. We’re not looking for or expecting the next Stephen King or JK Rowling to get in touch but we do need someone who has decent writing skills.

Social Media Manager

We’d love to have more hours in the day to hang out with and engage with our listeners and readers more but alas that’s not possible. You would join the team to manage our social media channels and be an advocate for the podcast and the articles on the website. You’ll be known as the go-to person for the Big Blue Box online.

This would entail the following:

1. Posting to our social channels and Discord when a new podcast episode or article goes live.
2. Creating a range of social media posts each week such as posts to older content that might be relevant, shout outs to other Doctor Who creators and their work, fun facts about DW and any other random goodness you feel might be entertaining or informative updates for our followers.
3. Engaging with our followers on those social channels (mainly Twitter) when they reply or @ us.
4. Being active in our Discord server as a moderator and chatting with our members.
5. Making sure Facebook and Instagram are up to date (although Twitter is our main driver so the other two just need maintenance to make sure new episodes and articles are posted there).
6. Speaking to our review partners such as Big Finish to arrange review material for our writers and communicating with them so they know when things are available.
7. Generally being an advocate for the show/site/brand.

As this person would be representing the Big Blue Box we need someone who understands the social landscape and can engage with people professionally but with a non-professional tone. No having meltdowns and getting into Twitter spats because you don’t agree with someone’s view on whether Steven Moffat was a better showrunner than Russell T Davies. Fun, upbeat, polite and honest but also firm in your beliefs without being drawn into playground name-calling. We don’t get involved in conversations where bullying is involved or common decency has left people’s minds. We’re old fashioned like that 🙂.

We have plans to do a monthly round table discussion that will go out as a separate podcast episode and/or live stream which you’ll be invited to take part in too!

An important note – both of the above roles are voluntary and non-paid. We are a bunch of fans who run the Big Blue Box for the love of the show. All we ask is that if you are interested, please make sure you have the time commitment to do it, no one weekwonders. We’re a small team of nice peeps who love chatting and putting content out about Doctor Who and we feel now is a good time to expand that a little.
